| Special Interest Groups
Special Interest Groups are a benefit of membership in the Denver Alumnae Chapter. Meetings and events held by these groups are published in each newsletter, or you may contact the VP Special Interests or the chair of the group to get more information about upcoming events. (Contact info available in your annual membership directory.) If you have a hobby or special interest and would like to organize a new Special Interest Group, please contact our VP Special Interests, Lil Owens Chair: Lydia Troxler Do you love to read and discuss characters and plot? If so, then this is the group for you! Our selection of books will appeal to any bibliophile, as well as to Thetas who did not relish college English classes. We meet each month, even during the summer. Look for details of the reading list, meeting times and locations in each newsletter and on the Upcoming Programs page.
Bridge
Club Chair: Bonnie McMullen The Bridge Club is set up in flights, but meets in foursomes each month for bridge and dessert. While each Theta must have a partner, non-Thetas are most welcome. Games are informal and are scheduled at the convenience of the foursome. The players take turns hosting. In May, an annual luncheon for the entire group is held with awards for the top scoring couples in each flight.
Coordinator: Janice Burd Support our older Thetas by participating in this new project. You'll make home visits to our oldest Thetas, assessing ways that we can help them further, be it through another visit, transportation to events, regular phone calls, etc. This project shows how meaningful "Theta for a lifetime" can be.
Chair: Jenny Hock Expand your culinary horizons! The Supper Club is for Thetas who enjoy eating, talking about, and learning to cook adventurous meals. Each month the group meets at a local restaurant or in a Theta's kitchen to share or prepare gourmet-caliber food. Most gatherings are on weeknights, with locations throughout the metro area. Contact Jenny to join the Supper Club e-mail list.
Chair: Betty Dysart The Hiking Group meets most Fridays to walk city bike paths, hike hills, climb 14ers, and enjoy wildflowers and waterfalls. Come enjoy the company of your Theta friends, nature and after-hike treats (such as ice cream stops on hot days)! All ages and skill levels are invited to join. Watch the newsletter and Upcoming Programs page for the hiking schedule (subject to change).
Our group has selected some fabulous hikes for the Summer season. Please join us any Friday morning. Call Betty for details. We have selected some hikes that are close to Denver this summer to conserve on gasoline. Our meeting place is at First Plymouth (Colorado and Hampden) in the East parking lot. Most of the time we just "walk and talk," so all levels are welcome. Join us when you can!
Chair: Ashley Nelson Join us for cocktails and conversation -- contact us for details and to be added to the evite list!
Coordinators: TBA Anyone interested in a casual lunch is invited to join the Lunch Bunch! We have 4 lunches planned for this year on the first Friday in the months of October, December, February and April. Please RSVP to the designated Lunch Coordinator by the Wednesday prior to the lunch. Look for details in your annual directory and in the newsletters.
Coordinator: Ashley Boyden Looking for a new group to run with? Join our Theta running enthusiasts group -- whether you're just starting out or training for a marathon, we'll help motivate you to reach that next step.
Chair: Lil Owens Calling all crafty Thetas! Do you have projects you never seem to find time to work on? Are you thinking about picking up a new needlecraft hobby? Join us if you'd like to spend some dedicated time once a month on your sewing, knitting, crocheting, quilting, embroidering, etc. Share ideas, show off your project, and maybe learn some new tricks. Some of our meetings will feature demonstrations and "How to" information for those who want to learn something new. We meet on the 3rd Tuesday of every other month from 10:30am to 1pm. RSVPs should be made to the hostess for each meeting, and please bring a sandwich to share. Any and all Thetas are welcome, whether or not they "stitch".
